Nasir Rivera Sprinters run XC but WHY ?
"If you want to kill a big dream, tell it to a small-minded person."
Hey there, I'm Nasiar Rivera! My journey in athletics began in middle school, but I really got into it during high school at West Roxbury Academy, where I joined the track team. Unlike most of my teammates, I was a sprinter who also tackled cross country, and that unique combination paved the way for a successful high school and college career. I even set school records in both disciplines. I proudly graduated from Husson University with a degree in business management.
It all started at West Roxbury when I met H. He introduced us to summer practices, something I had never experienced before. Then came the challenge of running a 3.1-mile race, which seemed impossible at first. However, my time in cross country taught me invaluable lessons and turned out to be the best decision I ever made. The mental strength I gained translated into success during the indoor and outdoor seasons, helping Westie's 4x400 team go undefeated in the BPS for three years.
Even in college, H stayed in touch, checking on me and keeping me updated on the XC teams and making sure I stayed on top of my schoolwork while representing the BPS on the track. After graduating, H invited me to assist him in coaching some sprinters he knew during the summer. This opportunity allowed me to stay connected to the sport I love. Sprinting in cross country has become a tradition in the BPS, with the city's best sprinters consistently joining the XC team. I'm proud to be a part of this legacy because I know it works.
